Elderly driver failed to yield.
Oscar-winning movie star Reese Witherspoon was struck by a car last week while out for a jog. The 36-year-old actress, who is an avid runner, received a quarter-sized gash on her forehead after the incident. The car hit her at an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection of 20th Street and Georgina Avenue in Santa Monica.
According to the police, the star of Walk the Line and Election suffered “minor injuries”.
She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
A witness of the accident told US Weekly magazine that “the driver seemed to have not seen her because of a large tree at the intersection…[Reese] was lucky, because it could have been much more serious.”
It was later disclosed that the driver was an 84-year-old who was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
“The whole incident really frightened her,” a source close to the accident said.
