There are several Web resources that can help you answer the question.

A recent article posted on the Running Times Web site seeks to arm hungry runners with the right tools to determine if they are consuming enough calories. Author Jackie Dios writes the best way to find out is to use technology. There are numerous Web site that can assist runners.

My Pyramid TrackerMy Fitness PalLose It and My Plate – Livestrong.com are several examples of resources that can help identify if we’re close to meeting our daily nutritional goals,” Dios notes. “All of these tools have different advantages and disadvantages.”

What to do with this information depends on what the runner discovers using these tools.

“The food tracking systems may simply create an awareness of a lack in fruits and vegetables,” Dios writes. “However, you may determine you’re chronically low in carbohydrates, which is often an easy one to kick up a notch.”

Dios also suggests that runners occasionally wear a heart-rate monitor in order to justify why more calories are needed on specific workout days.
