Dean is the recipient of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Community Leadership Award. In 2006, he was appointed to the California Taskforce on Youth Wellness by the California State Senate Rules Committee where he served for five years. Dean has also served on San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom’s Advisory Physical Activity Council and has been a Board Member of Girls on the Run, a nationwide organization that promotes self-development of preteen girls through a Ten or Twelve-week program of running, nutrition and education.
Winner of Running USA’s Youth Fitness Contributor of the Year award in 2009, that same year Dean was honored by the California State Senate for his tireless contributions toward promoting youth fitness and activity. (WATCH IT ON YOUTUBE)
Dean has helped numerous youth based organization with fundraising and program development. He recently ran 3,000-miles across America raising nearly $200,000 of funding for Action for Health Kids. He was invited to run by the White House along the way were he met with First Lady Michelle Obama to promote physical activity and the importance of outdoor activity.
Dean currently serves as an official Ambassador on State Superintendent Tom Torlakson’s Team California for Healthy Kids.
